Mastering Maiolica with Stan Andersen & Friends
September 21st 10am-5pm and 22nd 10am-2pm
Materials and Tools
Students Bring:
Pencil and notebook
Images/books for inspiration (plants, flowers, animals, etc)
Up to 6 small bisqueware pieces (low fire or mid fire clay). Traditional Maiolica is made from low fire clay but these techniques can work at mid range temperatures. Suggested items are cups, small bowls, and small plates/trays. Please wax the bottoms of your pieces before arriving to the workshop.
8-10 (8 ounce) tightly lidded plastic containers. These will hold the color pots students will make during the workshop. You must be able to shake liquid without leaking.
Variety of brushes such as:
Hake brush
Calligraphy brush
Liner brush
Watercolor brushes
Wax Resist Brush
Small clean up sponge
Box and bubble wrap to transport finished work
Work apron
Bagged lunch (coffee and lite snacks provided)
Double Island Studio Will Provide:
Stains and oxides for color pots. Colors provided include: Turquoise, Coral, Steel blue, Purple, and Avocado. Feel free to bring additional colors. 1 tablespoon per color of oxide or stain is sufficient.
